Top teams for UFAs: Everyone would love to be drafted this weekend, but only about 255 players actually will be. As a result, we took a look at the teams who gave the most looks at unrestricted free agents over three seasons (2005, 2006 and 2008), and found out that the results had to do with team philosophy, not success on the field. Check out the teams you should be calling late afternoon Sunday in today's report, brought to you by I.W. Marks.
ITL Notebook: April 22

Non-combine draftees:Osi Umenyiora. Robert Mathis. Matt Cassel. Cortland Finnegan. Tyler Thigpen. Zach Diles. Derrick Ward. Yeremiah Bell. Jay Ratliff. Kevin Walter. As you hear accolade after accolade thrown at the top players slated to go in this weekend’s draft, remember these names of players who weren’t even invited to the combine, but who were drafted and remain stars (or at least starters) in the league. Here’s our list of the 204 players since 2003 who were combine snubs, but got drafted anyway (sorted by agency). It’s brought to you by Perfect Competition.
Non-NIC draftees -- the breakdown: How many non-combine invitees get drafted each year? How late (or how early) do they go? Which teams are independent enough to take these ‘diamonds in the rough?’ And which ones have had staying power? It’s all in our non-NIC draftees grid. Check it out here, brought to you by EFT Sports Performance.

Draft prospect manual: At head coach Mickey Matthews' invitation, ITL's Neil Stratton will address the players at James Madison University Saturday before the Dukes' spring game on all-star games and the selection process, agents, the combine and NFL player evaluation, the draft, and alternate leagues. His notes are here. Give it a look -- there are still a few blanks to fill in, but it's here in its entirety -- and let us know what we're missing, what points we should be making, where we're wrong, and anything else you, an ITL client, feels has merit. Once the manuscript is complete, it will be sent to two schools (one in the Mountain West, one in the Big East) who are also seeking information for their juniors and seniors. We appreciate your feedback.
PW/T30 grids: The personal visits are complete for the 2009 draft as of today, but there were a few last-minute calls, probably indicating serious interest. Give them a look in our grid sorted by player and team sort, brought to you by Prospect Mortgage.

How did this happen, a year (and change) before he's set to be drafted? And why in the world would he pass on the possibility of signing with so many other still-relevant firms? We did some digging, and here's what we came up with.

ITL Notebook: March 13
Juris grid: David Cornwell’s bid to remain a finalist for the vacant leadership position with the NFLPA, bolstered by his proposal to fight Roger Goodell’s oversight authority, got us thinking, what agencies would benefit most from this initiative? Put another way, what agencies have to spend the most time answering questions from the media due to arrests (that are, by the way, often baseless and subsequently dropped)? Put still another way, who regularly has the biggest uphill PR hills to climb?
In an attempt to answer the question, we reviewed Greenberg Traurig’s exhaustive (and ubiquitous, thanks to deadspin.com) filing in defense of Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones that details all the NFL’s arrests – not convictions, but arrests – from January, 2001, to April, 2007, and matched player to firm. What we came up with was this list, which is good for informational purposes but shouldn’t be used to draw conclusions about firms. Enjoy.
PW/T30 Grid: We've updated with some big names in today's report. Check it out here.
ITL Notebook: March 12
